Alright let’s talk money and side hustles/businesses outside your day job.
Tough day at work?
Today’s post is the antidote to corporate or day job burnout.
I am getting a lot of DMs and messages about the steps to take towards building a side hustle or online business outside of a 9-5 job, how to manage time if you are doing so, and how to balance the two things, so today’s post is going to be a comprehensive guide to just that.
Today’s post covers the thought process, approach, and steps that need to be taken to successfully start a side hustle or business while you have a full time job. Specifically it covers mindset, the process steps, and the point where you manage to hit escape velocity so you can escape the wage slave lifestyle and earn back more of your time.
Let me paint a picture for you - 7 years ago I started arbitrage Andy on Instagram in a bathroom stall between lunch and the second half of the day. At the time, my only income came from my 9-5 job - which at the time was a trading role. I got a decent base - and an annual Bonus assuming I performed and met target expectations.
Andy wasn’t making any money at the time, but over the years that changed due to consistency, determination, and experimentation.
There aren’t many people that would say no if you asked them if they were interested in making additional income online — but the number one excuse for not getting started or following through is almost always — “I don’t have time, a have a day job”.
This is valid — and today I will walk you through exactly which framework and cadence you need to stick to in order to start seeing results — and more money — in a side hustle or online business.
Nobody said it was going to be easy to escape the rat race.
Fast forward to today - and I now make more with Andy and my other online business ventures than I make with my day job. The bulk of my attention, efforts, and f*cks given are purely reserved for my business and the plans I have for it down the line.
This took severe dedication and more importantly - it took compartmentalizing in order to build up my “Shawshank” escape tunnel while also having normal jobs. It’s not an easy act to pull off - but today I’ll walk you through the most useful techniques and tips I have for pulling it off.
To put it simply, in my mind, there are 3 reasons to pursue your own “thing” while having a job:
Money - more capital to live your life the way you want
Freedom - the time and freedom to do what you want when you want
Options - the option to pursue different endeavors, ride a job out, switch jobs, or pursue something entirely differently
Twitter and Instagram along with various online communities glorify the “entrepreneur” path where people quit job without a plan or monthly cash flow or they never get a normal job to begin with. This is almost always a mistake for several reasons we will talk through today — the real luxury move is to keep a day job and grind your absolute ass off on a side venture or business.
This will be THE definitive guide I put out on this topic along with my E-Commerce Guides I’ve already published here — I am not an expert but after 7 years of staying with it and working day jobs I am creeping very close to being able to walk away from a traditional job forever and pursue what I actually want to build.
Covid and world events amplified the amount of people who realized day jobs until they are 60 are not the route they want to go and not the guaranteed method to being able to retire comfortably or with enough money that they want. With the advent of work from home and other new dynamics in the work world — it’s never been easier to begin escaping from corporate servitude. Plus it’s looking like lockdowns 2.0 are inbound just in time for the next presidential election so you may find yourself with more times on your hands real quick.
And let’s be honest — a lot of people have other pursuits or hobbies outside of their day job or 9-5 role — however this guide is tailored towards those who are pursuing a business of their own or want to start earning more money outside the hours of their normal job.
They want to escape eventually and gain a true sense of freedom and optionality.
Sure you can choose to just go through the motions at your job and keep compounding that 401k — but in almost every single instance and surly in the future — you will fall behind from those who have managed to use their time wisely to supplement their income or even lay a plan to eventually leave behind a standard job forever.
We’ll start with some tips for mindset I have that learned are essential to being able to get started and continue seeing success in your business or side hustle outside work.
