Good morning everyone - hope most of you had a solid weekend and are feeling recharged for this week as we inch closer to October.
This post is meant to be an overview of the current societal trends that are cause for concern in the US at the moment. Just this past weekend I was shocked to come across a number of updates and events that transpired in different parts of the US.
People have come to rely on Arb Letter for delivering factual and realistic updates for markets, global news, and life.
And I’m not going to steer away from this mandate — particularly as we approach election season in the United States. The simple truth is, the world has changed significantly since the onset of covid. What’s happening in our culture is no different than a deep and widespread rot — people are trusting institutions less (with good reason), there is less confidence in the “system”, and unfortunately we’re seeing a drastic jump in individualism, which normally is a good thing, but this kind has metastasized into an utter disregard for others communities, rights, and our national identity.
History shows us — that when these trends paired with economic uncertainty, war, pressure on the middle class, inflation, hyper partisan politics, and government overreach begin to accelerate, there’s rarely a happy ending.
And I get the suspicion more people than we care to admit see what’s going on, but perhaps they are in denial or shock about the extent of the domestic condition in the US and in other parts of the world. I also get that covering these topics and updates can begin to wear on people mentally — we don’t like doom and gloom all the time.
But personally I don’t think it’s been ever more important to have a holistic understanding of how things are trending so you can adjust your life and approach to accommodate for a variety of outcomes — not just a great gatsby - esque perpetual bull market happy time snow-globe tinsel town version of life, but a version that temporarily regresses into some of the uglier phases of civilization.
We are seeing this occur now — despite what the media and others who have a stake in keeping you dumb and happy say.
Today we’re going to cover some uncomfortable truths and topics that deserve scrutiny and attention. It’s pretty disheartening to see some of the current issues continuing to worsen with each passing week including:
Crime in major US cities spreading to affluent areas
The situation at the Southern Border and it’s impact on US communities
General breakdown of societal norms and decency
Growing seriousness of geopolitical developments with China/Russia
How to make sure you’re equipped to deal with this new reality
As usual — those who are going to succeed in the near future are the ones who have a level head and can ignore the noise. However, there will certainly be some unexpected developments that “normies” or regular people consciously choose to ignore or remain completely oblivious about. They will suffer as a result of that ignorance.
The cold harsh reality is — society is degrading at an absurd rate. I see it everyday I have to go to the office in New York City. Growing umbers of homeless, druggies, shoplifters, and illegal immigrants — at levels that far surpass pre pandemic rates. I grew up in San Francisco and have spent time in LA and NY and I can say without a shred of doubt that things are much worse than they have been historically.
Crime is completely out of hand because of the lack of proper repercussions and consequences, even for repeat offenders. Despite the thin woke veil of acceptance and equity and equality — you cannot change the reality people face on the streets everyday. That kind of thinking gets people killed.

In a small Seattle metro a group of teens viciously beat a store clerk this week before proceeding to loot the convenience store on camera. This could’ve been one of our grandmas and yet…. where is the outrage? There were shootings in the last 72 hours in Denver, Orlando, Ohio, and New York to name a few. People seem to have short fuses and this trend of random violence is growing week by week.
Illinois has just become the first state in the U.S. to entirely abolish cash bail starting Monday, September 18, 2023 — which is great news for criminals.
The breakdown of society we are seeing is driven by loose policies, soft on crime treatment, woke virtue signaling that favors emotions over logic, and the continued subversion of the United States (either by incompetence or intention).
Are you prepared for surging crime and social unrest in your city or town? Have you considered what is coming ahead of the 2024 election season? Do you have a grasp on what is being permitted to occur at our southern border and the implications for national security across US cities and communities?
Our country is being eaten up from the inside out and more normal people are starting to catch on with each passing week. In the famous words of George Orwell, “The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.” Reality isn’t what you experience physically! It’s what we tell you is occurring! Everything’s fine!
Are you content with Draftkings, IPAs, mainstream talking points, celebrity drivel, and the endless dopamine feedback loop of social media?
It’s time to start taking things seriously — as things truly are beginning to deteriorate around us. There’s no “escaping” or “ignoring” these trends. As they materially worsen, more and more people will see first hand what a country without law looks like.
As the national testing of the emergency alert system approaches on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, it’s a good time to take stock of the issues facing our country that impact everyday Americans. Things are heating up domestically, globally, and within our communities and everyone should take some time to understand the severity of the implications of these occurrences.
Stocks and crypto are fun — but when physical reality starts to become more dangerous, those items take a backseat to being prepared, educated, and well informed on conditions that impact your life and your loved ones directly. Today’s post is for premium subscribers to Arb Letter. You can access this post and 220 others for less than the cost of a large fry at Mcdonalds.
Thousands of you subscribe to stay in the loop with objective and critical commentary on the world around us and expect many more to join in the coming months as idealism is replaced with a sober realism about the way this country and various world conflicts are trending.
Let’s get into it — starting with what’s driving the reckless and absurd behavior many people are seeing in public daily at this point.
There are many countries in the world that when they reached the middle-income stage, they witnessed serious structural problems such as growth stagnation, a widening wealth gap, and increasing social unrest.
